Lumla Bodong Nunnery Sponsorship Program
The Lumla Bodong Nunnery Sponsorship program aims to find sponsors for 40-50 impoverished or orphaned young girls from remote villages surrounding Lumla so they can study the Buddhist teachings following the Bodong tradition, as well as modern subjects like Tibetan, English, Hindi, science, health & hygiene and computer literacy. Studying the Bodong tradition of Buddhism will revitalize the girls’ cultural and religious heritage. The girls will study and live in the safe environment for about ten years.
Geshe-la personally supports the building of the school and nunnery. The local Lumla authorities have granted the requisite building permits for the nunnery and the project is currently seeking recognition as a charitable trust in Lumla. As soon as that status is reached, building construction will begin, overseen by a committee of educators in Lumla. Country activities and general fundraising is underway in Belgium, Israel, Netherlands, Switzerland, and Norway and sponsors to support the individual girls are being sought in Norway and the Netherlands.
The sponsorship program will be modeled on the Porong Monastery Sponsorship program in Kathmandu. Please join the ongoing fundraising events or make a donation straight away. Your contributions and support are most welcome.
