first aid and medical care

All country activities by Pema Dorjee in Nepal and India focus on health issues, medical supply, illness prevention, medical information and aid. In general it is organized to take medical specialists, doctors and nurses to the restricted regions of Lumla (India) and Rathankot (Nepal).

the goals are clearly set:

  • raise funds for surgical needs of sick people from lumla
  • delegation from Israel to lumla, which will include doctors and agricultural specialists
  • teach local people on health issues
  • bring sick children to India or western countries for the more complicated surgeries

Many of the children and as well as people of all ages within these areas suffer from various illnesses. In the remote areas paralysis (some affected  to a degree of 75 %) is diagnosed. Others have severe bone problems and eye deseases.

Children already show serious deformities due to tuberculosis. Furthermore many suffer from respiratory problems, spinal bone deformation, injuries and everyday health issues occur.

Reasons for this are due  to malnutrition, a chronic lack of medical care, environmental causes, lack of hygiene, and not having the right medical treatment and medication. Immediate medical treatment is often difficult due to the distances and lack of infrastructre. There are rarely  any medical facilities at all nearby.

Help and support is on the way. Pema´s projects focus on immediate care, by teaching and providing  first aid,and by providing long term support for these health issues. In addition to  first aid and long term medical support,  we have provided and hope to continue to provide more complex medical care:

  • to take people from mountain villages where they receive adequate treatment and surgery
  • to take medical delegations to the villages
  • to provide easy to handle medical equipment (e.g. first aid bags)
